Auction Items Sold vs. Charity Cost
The Auction Items Sold vs. Charity Cost Report compares the amount each auction item sold for against its Charity Cost. This report is especially useful for consignment items or any auction items that have a cost to your organization, helping you evaluate profitability and overall return.
💡 Good to Know: This report can be found under Reports → Auction Reports → Auction Items Sold vs. Charity Cost Report. The report opens automatically as a PDF when selected.

1. Review the Report
The report compares each item's Charity Cost to its selling price.
The report includes:
- Catalog Number
- Charity Cost
- Sold At Amount
- Yield Percentage
The report also provides totals for:
- Total Charity Cost
- Total Sales Amount
- Overall Yield Percentage
💡 Good to Know: The Yield Percentage shows how much revenue was generated compared to the Charity Cost, making it easy to evaluate the profitability of each item.
2. Evaluate Item Profitability
Use this report to:
- Compare selling prices against Charity Costs.
- Evaluate the profitability of consignment items.
- Determine whether items generated a positive return.
- Review overall revenue compared to your organization's investment.
💡 Good to Know: This report is especially valuable for events that include consignment items or auction items purchased by the organization before being sold.
3. Print or Export the Report
After generating the report, you can choose to:
- Download as PDF
- Download as Excel
- Print the report
💡 Good to Know: Exporting to Excel allows you to sort, filter, and analyze Charity Costs and item profitability outside of MaxGiving.

Enter Charity Costs on Auction Items
For an item to appear accurately on this report, a Charity Cost must be entered on the auction item record.
You can enter or update the Charity Cost when:
- Creating a new auction item.
- Editing an existing auction item.
💡 Good to Know: If no Charity Cost has been entered for an item, the report cannot accurately calculate its yield or profitability.
